Nottingham Forest Under 23s conceded a late strike to fall to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Crewe Alexandra yesterday.
Aaron Smith gave The Reds a first-half lead but Crewe hit back through Sam Heathcote before Perry Ng's long-range strike sealed the three points.
Both sides exchanged chances in the opening part of the match and it was Crewe's Callum Saunders who nearly found the breakthrough, hitting the inside of the post when one-on-one on nine minutes, then The Reds rattled the woodwork themselves as a superb strike from Yassine En-Neyah from 25 yards thundered off the post on 23 minutes.
Callum Ainley was the third player to hit the post on the half-hour before Forest took the lead right on the stroke of half time as Smith arrived at the back post from a low cross to slot past goalkeeper David Richards.
Crewe hit back after the break and were level on 55 minutes through Heathcoate's close-range header and they found the winner in injury time. Full back Ng picked the ball up 25 yards from goal and struck an effort into the far corner to snatch the win.
