Ben pleased with professional performance

5 March 2017

Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Osborn said it was a very professional performance from The Reds to seal a 3-0 win over Brighton at The City Ground.

Osborn scored the second goal after an error from Brighton keeper David Stockdale which all-but sealed a vital three points for Forest.

Speaking about his goal, Osborn said: “We pinned Rosenior in the corner and I thought surely he can’t play this back to the keeper. He did, it was a great ball, the keeper has taken a great touch and I have gone to close it down. For some reason he has gone to take another one and then it just came towards me and I tapped it in. That was a massive goal in the game and all but secured the three points.

“Gaz mentioned it before about closing the keeper down and I did it about six times in the game. I got close a couple of times and just anticipated and got a goal from it.
“We matched them pretty well first half and they didn’t have many chances. We were confident going into the second half and we just needed that goal. Thankfully we did and then two goals on the counter attack and it is a great result.

“We wanted to take the game to them and I think they did that from the start. We pressed high and won the challenges. But they are clever and good and when we did get high they were sticking it down the channels to make it hard for us. After that we knew we needed to be professional. Against Sheffield Wednesday we played well but probably lacked that discipline and professionalism and I thought we had that in abundance today.”

Osborn felt lady luck was shining on The Reds following a controversial opener, after Britt Assombalonga tried to divert Zach Clough’s strike into the net from what appeared to be an offside position, but Osborn felt it was about time something fell their way.

He said: “We have had a lot of bad things go for us recently so I think it has evened it out a little bit. A result like that has been coming. At home we are confident; we have a great squad and if you look player for player there aren’t too many we would have swapped. We just need to take it into Tuesday now and that is another big game.”
