Goalkeeper Jordan Smith is itching to get back into the swing of things as Nottingham Forest returned for pre-season.
The first-team squad underwent testing on Thursday to check their physical levels ahead of the start of pre-season training and Smith is pleased to be back.
He said: "It is good to be back. I have been chomping at the bit and I have been looking forward to getting back – I think my girlfriend was getting a bit annoyed with me!
"It is nice to have a break and to get away and recharge the batteries but it is great to be back. There is only so much twiddling of the thumbs you can do in the summer and this is what I love doing."
Smith is looking forward to his first pre-season as a senior pro, having been involved with the first-team ahead of the season previously only as a younger player.
He said: "I have been on pre-season with the first team on a few occasions but I was treated as a young boy coming through or in between the age groups, but I'd like to think I am more of a senior player now which gives me even more to look forward to.
"The structure is there in terms of what we were given to do over the summer and we have our schedule to look forward to over pre-season. There is a clear plan of what we are doing and when which is brilliant for us as players.
"It is exciting to get stuck straight in; it will be tough as all pre-seasons are and it is not what you look forward to in some ways but something you do at the same time. Once we get stuck into it I'm sure we will be able to see the rewards when the pre-season games and first league game comes around."
