The 2017-18 Sky Bet Championship fixtures were announced this morning and Nottingham Forest supporters are already planning out the next ten months.
Here we pick out some key dates for the upcoming season for fans to book in the diary.
Saturday 5 August – Millwall (H)*
Newly-promoted Millwall are the visitors to The City Ground on the opening day of the season. The Reds also started the 2016-17 campaign at home against a promoted side in Burton Albion, with a thrilling 4-3 win the outcome, and Neil Harris’s side will be looking to make a positive start on their return to the second tier.
Saturday 12 August – Brentford (A)
Forest’s first away trip of the season sees them head down to the capital to take on Brentford. The Reds left empty handed in last season’s trip to West London and Mark Warburton will be keen to take all three points against his former side.
Saturday 14 October – Derby County (A)
The first East Midlands derby takes place at Pride Park in October. Always one of the first fixtures that fans look for, The Reds will look to improve on last season’s trip down the A52 as they return to action following an international break.
Saturday 23 December – Preston North End (A)
The festive period begins with a trip to Deepdale, two days before Christmas Day. The Reds, who drew 1-1 against Simon Grayson’s men last term, will head up to Lancashire to begin a series of four games in ten days.
Tuesday 26 December – Sheffield Wednesday (H)
Forest will be at home for the traditional Boxing Day fixture, welcoming Sheffield Wednesday to The City Ground. The Owls, who lost in the play-off semi-finals last season, will be looking for promotion this time around.
Saturday 30 December – Sunderland (H)
The Reds are also at home for the fixture between Christmas and New Year, with Sunderland making the trip down to Trentside. The Mackems, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, will play at The City Ground for the first time since 2008.
Monday 1 January – Leeds United (A)
Forest see in the New Year with a trip to Elland Road to take on Leeds United. Leeds have a new manager at the helm in Thomas Christiansen who will be looking to build on last year’s seventh-place finish, while The Reds will be keen to avenge the 2-0 reverse of the 2016-17 campaign.
Saturday 10 March – Derby County (H)
The second East Midlands derby of the season takes place on Saturday 10 March. Eagerly anticipated each season, the fixture is set to be another memorable one after a late strike helped The Reds secure a point last time out.
Saturday 28 April – Bristol City (H)
The Reds end their home campaign by welcoming Bristol City to The City Ground on Saturday 28 April. Ben Osborn’s superb free kick won the match between the two teams last season and Forest will welcome a similarly good result this time around.
Sunday 6 May – Bolton Wanderers (A)
The final day of the 2017-18 season sees Forest visit newly-promoted Bolton Wanderers. The Trotters bounced straight back into the Championship, finishing second in League One in 2016-17, and The Reds will want to finish the season on a positive note.
*The game against Millwall has been provisionally scheduled for Saturday 5 August but the date may need to be changed to avoid a clash with Nottinghamshire’s T20 Blast match at Trent Bridge.
**All fixture dates and kick-off times are subject to change.
