Fighting fit and raring to go

24 June 2017

Nottingham Forest forward Zach Clough says the club is in a really strong position as it enters pre-season and believes the squad could achieve something special in the upcoming campaign.

There has been a wave of positivity at The City Ground this summer with over 15,000 season cards already sold and Clough says the players felt that vibe as they returned to training on Thursday.

He said: "You can tell the supporters are sensing the excitement around the football club, especially because the new owners are in place now. The club is in a really healthy shape at the moment with the owners, the manager and the players we have at our disposal.

"To have sold over 15,000 season cards already is incredible and we're all looking forward to playing in a great atmosphere next season."

Clough experienced a hectic 2016-17 season as he played 43 games during his spells with Bolton Wanderers and The Reds but the forward is still desperate to get back into action after an enjoyable summer break.

He said: "I've been on holiday with my girlfriend and also went away playing golf with Matty Cash so it's been a good summer. I've tried to keep myself fit and in shape so now I'm looking forward to getting started during pre-season.

"With the development of sports science and nutrition, everyone knows what they should be eating and doing throughout the summer so we've all come back in really good shape. The sports scientists give us a great programme to stick to during the summer and that helps us to maintain our fitness levels.

"After a few weeks of the summer break I start to miss playing football and I actually get a bit bored. It's nice to be back in the dressing room with the lads now and have a bit of a banter so it's definitely good to be back.

"Last pre-season I had a few hamstring problems but I got over those, went to have a really good season and played over 40 matches for Bolton and then Forest. Hopefully this season I can do the same and chip in with some goals again as well."
