Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Osborn is impressed with the whole squad’s fitness levels after the third pre-season match against Girona FC.
The Reds ran out 2-1 winners at The City Ground on Tuesday night and he believes that the squad is in good shape ahead of the season opener against Millwall.
He said: “I don’t think results are too important but fitness wise everyone looks really good. They were a good outfit, technically they were very good and they moved it well but, to a man, everyone looked really fit and we played some good stuff at times.
“It is the toughest challenge we have had so far but they have all been different. Notts County were quite direct and physical and Mansfield pressed us really well.”
Apostolos Vellios came off the bench to score twice, taking his pre-season tally to five, and Osborn believes The Reds’ superior fitness is giving them an advantage.
He said: “He is on fire but it just shows our fitness levels as in the last half-hour we have looked strong in each game. We got a few late goals against Mansfield and the same at Notts County. We look good, getting the ball into wide areas and Tolis is getting on the end of it.
“I think we are about ready. It will be a good test against Burnley as I think they are the fittest team in the country. It will be a really good test, different than against Girona. It will be more physical, at a higher pace and we will see how we do against them to get us ready for Millwall.”
