Nottingham Forest midfielder Jamie Ward felt that the team’s hard work paid off as they came away with a 1-0 win against Bristol City.
Ben Osborn’s strike was the only goal of the game and Ward said the team’s commitment provided the perfect foundations for the win.
He said: “They are a side down there with us so it was important that we got three points and we worked hard.
“We deserved to win the game. It was a great finish from Ben, great technique and the goal deserved to win the game.
“It is always tense towards the end and they will always pile the pressure on but we were professional enough to see it out and we defended well.
“You know if you work hard then the crowd will get behind you. Our aim is to do that and get our tackles in then the second part of the job takes care of itself like it has done.”
Ward returned to the club this week after his loan at Burton Albion was terminated and he is determined to help Forest move away from the relegation places.
He said: “The most important thing is staying up rather than Burton Albion as I am contracted here. I do wish Burton all the best but the most important thing is this club staying up and getting away from the relegation zone.
“I had a session yesterday and that was it. I felt I was perhaps a little bit too over-pumped at the start and wanted to do too well then I settled down into the game and hopefully played better than I did at the start.”
