James Murphy’s first-half strike proved to be the difference in a game of few chances and interim Under 23 head coach Gareth Holmes used the match as a chance to give game time to new signings Gboly Ariyibi and Joao Teixeira as well as Joe Worrall, Thomas Lam, Hildeberto Pereira and Apostolos Vellios.
Teixeira had the game’s first effort, firing a free kick straight at Wednesday keeper Cameron Dawson before Murphy’s goal broke the deadlock on 10 minutes from the edge of the box.
Both sides failed to create many clear-cut chances, with Forest only coming near to finding the equalising goal on a few occasions.
The result means that Wednesday cement their place at the top of the Professional Development League while The Reds remain in mid-table.
