Nottingham Forest Under 23s closed the gap on league leaders Sheffield Wednesday with a 4-2 victory at Hull City this afternoon.

A brace from Virgil Gomis added to goals from Arvin Appiah and Toby Edser as The Reds made it an impressive ten matches without defeat and put another important three points on the board.

Despite their strong recent form, Forest fell behind after only seven minutes as Tyler Hamilton's shot was deflected past Dimitar Evtimov but Gomis soon restored parity as he fired home from ten yards out despite the best efforts of home goalkeeper Callum Burton.

Hull went back in front early in the second as Dan Batty's corner was scrambled home from close range by Ben Hinchliffe but again Forest quickly drew level as Appiah tapped in the loose ball after Burton had spilled Gomis's strike.

The Reds were looking the more confident side in possession and went ahead for the first time when Edser capped off a well-crafted move as he converted Appiah's pipoint delivery into the penalty area.

Needing a two-goal cushion to ensure a comfortable ending, Forest duly got it with eight minutes to play. Gomis raced on to a ball over the top of the Hull defence and struck a powerful effort towards goal which Burton was unable to keep out.

Forest will hope to make it 11 games unbeaten on Friday night when they host Huddersfield Town at Alfreton's Impact Arena (kick-off 7pm).
