Mark Warburton wants to see more from his side but he was pleased to progress in the Carabao Cup by knocking out Shrewsbury Town.
Mustapha Carayol and Jason Cummings were both on target for The Reds in the 2-1 win and the Forest boss was happy to give his squad playing time.
He said: “We have to give full respect to Shrewsbury. It was very difficult conditions tonight and the ground staff did remarkably well to get the game on.
“It wasn’t great tonight, to be honest. We changed 11 players as we wanted the squad to get some game time and it was still a very strong team in terms of names.
“We have got to be better in moving the ball and it is a couple of games in a row where we can ask questions of ourselves; it is early in the season and I am delighted for the players to get some pitch time.
“We were disappointed in some areas but if you can be disappointed but still win games of football that is a good trait to have.
“We want to go as far as possible in this competition. The association this club has with this competition is evident but we want high-quality, competitive games. It is a chance for players to maintain their match fitness and match sharpness so that they are ready and can deliver when they are called upon.”
