Jordan Smith said it was a complete performance from Nottingham Forest as they overcame Middlesbrough at The City Ground.
Smith played a key role in keeping Boro at bay and felt The Reds did both sides of the game very well on Saturday.
He said: "It seems to be that we always leave it tense at the end but I thought we showed two really quality sides to us.
"In the first half in terms of playing the kind of football that we did and really taking the game to Middlesbrough and putting them on the back foot. Then in the second half when it got a bit hairy and tense, we defended our box really well and dealt with a bit of an onslaught.
"We have to do that side of the game to earn the right to play football and it is probably as complete as a performance that you are going to see from us this season.
"We seem to play better against the so-called better teams and I think we took the game to them. With the quality we have here, we have players to exploit the space and we are dangerous when we get into those areas."
Smith had high praise for the fans as well who turned out in big numbers again on Trentside and knows he has a big role to play in getting them on their feet.
He said: "The fans that came out today were absolutely brilliant. We got them on their feet and gave them a lot to cheer about and that's what you want as fans.
"It starts with me, that's how we want to play. Game by game it is something I need to improve on and we have new players that are still gelling in but I think that you can see we are reaping the rewards."
