Barrie McKay was delighted to get off the mark for Nottingham Forest as his goal proved decisive against Millwall.
The Scottish forward struck a 41st-minute winner for The Reds and said the three points are a boost to start the season.
He said: “It was a big three points in the first game of the season and we are delighted to get it.
“I had a few other chances when I came inside and I chose to pass it but that time I decided to strike it and it went in. If you look at most of my goals they tend to come from long range so it was good to get off the mark with a good goal.
“I was happy with my performance but the main thing was to get the win. I thought we defended as a team and to get that win is a boost at the start of the season.
“Millwall battled hard and will be a bit disappointed with the result but the three points is the main thing. Before the game we wanted to try and give the fans a performance. We maybe didn’t perform as well as we know we could but at the end of the day the three points is what matters.”
