Nottingham Forest Under 23s were beaten 1-0 by Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena this afternoon in the Professional Development League.
Jack Lester saw his side come out on the wrong side of the scoreline in the West Midlands as Coventry forward Charles Vernam struck on the hour to give The Sky Blues all three points.
Forest began brightly as young winger Yassine En-Neyah tested goalkeeper Corey Addai with a free-kick before Vernam went close at the other end but was off-target with his long-range effort.
Virgil Gomis then had an excellent opportunity to open the scoring shortly after as he latched on to a superb pass from Aaron Smith. The Frenchman slid the ball past Addai but agonisingly wide of the far post as the scores stayed level.
Addai had to be alert to tip a shot from Gomis over the crossbar before Coventry grabbed the advantage on 60 minutes. Vernam was able to get on the end of a ball over the top and he finished from close range to open the scoring.
Both sides had chances towards the end of the game as Gomis was denied by a tremendous save from Addai and Jordan Wright had to turn a strike from Jordan Shipley over the crossbar but Coventry held on to secure victory at the Ricoh Arena.
