Nottingham Forest Under 23s failed to take their chances as they were beaten 1-0 at Leeds United on Monday afternoon.
Jack Lester's side had first-half opportunities through defender Joe Worrall and striker Ben Brereton but were made to pay for those missed chances as Eoghan Stokes opened the scoring just before half-time.
It was an entertaining and end-to-end second half at Thorpe Arch and The Reds had a golden opportunity to draw level in stoppage time as Toby Edser was brought down inside the penalty area.
But Leeds goalkeeper Ross Turnbull pulled off a magnificent save to get down and push Brereton's spot-kick away and ensure that the home side took all three points away from an entertaining encounter in Yorkshire.
