Nottingham Forest Under 23s played their first home game at Alfreton Town’s Impact Arena last night as a goal from Ben Brereton earned them a 1-1 draw against Birmingham City.
We took the lead in the 26th minute as Brereton picked up the ball just outside the Birmingham penalty area and fired a crisp, low shot past goalkeeper Connal Trueman and into the corner of the net.
The Blues levelled just before half-time when Charlie Cooper’s free-kick was converted smartly at the back post by Ronan Hale as the two sides went into the interval all-square.
There were opportunities for both sides in the second half as Joe Worrall headed wide from a free-kick from just outside the six-yard box while Jordan Smith was also called into action to palm away a couple of long-range strikes from the visitors.
Brereton has now scored five goals in two games following his four-goal display at Queens Park Rangers last time out and the former Stoke City man is now adapting to life in the Under 23s.
He and Forest will be hoping to put in another positive performance on Monday afternoon when they make the journey to Leeds United (kick-off 1pm).
