Nottingham Forest defender Eric Lichaj says last night's 3-1 win over Birmingham City was a deserved victory for everybody at the club.
The American scored only his second goal for the club to put Forest ahead at The City Ground and Lichaj was delighted to see The Reds build on that opening goal and go on to take all three points.
He said: "It was a good goal, a good team performance and we really needed that for the players, the staff and the supporters. We've been struggling with results recently and it was a big win for the squad and for our confidence.
"Nicklas has seen my run into the penalty area, I've managed to nick it past the defender and just strike it into the back of the net. It was a goal that we needed at the time and I think we deserved it. It was a good time to score."
The two-week international break allowed Forest to work on some important tactical plans and Lichaj says the players were able to put into practice their new formation which paid instant dividends against The Blues.
He said: "We changed our style of play and our formation during the international break to exploit the wings and it was just a different way to play. It enabled us to push the two full-backs forward and I think it worked really well for us.
"We've been working on our roles in the last two weeks so everyone knew what each other was doing tonight. You could feel tonight that the players and fans desperately wanted the three points tonight so we're very happy.
"Looking at the programme before the game I saw Birmingham are in the last play-off place. We were much better than them tonight so we know we have to start climbing the table now and trying to make it into the top six."
