Classic matches: Nottingham Forest v QPR

There have been some classic matches at The City Ground between Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers over the years - here are six of the best.

Nottingham Forest 3-2 Queens Park Rangers - September 10 1983

An own goal by Bob Hazell gave Forest a 3-2 win over QPR at The City Ground in the First Division. Steve Hodge had pulled Forest level after Ian Dawes gave the visitors the lead, but Peter Davenport’s strike meant The Reds went in 2-1 up at the break. Simon Stainrod levelled things for The Rs before the deciding own goal secured a first home win of the season. Nottingham Forest 3-2 Queens Park Rangers - October 2 1994

Five second half goals were edged by Forest as Stan Collymore’s late strike secured a 3-2 win over QPR. The forward’s neat finish ended a topsy-turvy game in which Kingsley Black gave The Reds the lead after 51 minutes. England forward Les Ferdinand equalised moments later, before Brian Roy restored the lead. Bradley Allen pulled it back level for Rangers after 84 minutes, before Collymore’s strike two minutes from time secured all three points at The City Ground.


Nottingham Forest 3-0 Queens Park Rangers - May 4 1996

Steve Stone, Brian Roy and Bobby Howe (pictured below) were all on target as Forest ended the 1995/96 season on a high with a 3-0 win over QPR at The City Ground. The win confirmed Forest’s ninth place finish in the Premiership, while Rangers were consigned to relegation to the First Division. 



Nottingham Forest 4-0 Queens Park Rangers - August 30 1997

Nottingham Forest completed the perfect opening month back in the second tier as a Pierre Van Hooijdonk hat-trick secured a 4-0 win over QPR at The City Ground. It was The Reds’ fourth win on the trot and the Dutchman’s hat-trick, along with a goal for Dean Saunders, secured all three points. Nottingham Forest 5-0 Queens Park Rangers - January 26 2010

A rampant Forest cruised to a 5-0 win over Queens Park Rangers, with Robert Earnshaw grabbing a first half brace. The result took The Reds level on points with Newcastle at the top of the Championship table and extended an unbeaten league run to 19 games. A Dexter Blackstock penalty made it 3-0 at half time, before Chris Cohen and James Perch added a gloss to the win in the second half.  


Nottingham Forest 2-0 Queens Park Rangers - December 26 2013

Nottingham Forest were given a Christmas treat in 2013 as a bizarre Andy Reid goal secured a 2-0 win over QPR on Boxing Day. Greg Halford put The Reds 1-0 up at The City Ground, before Reid scored with ten minutes to play when everyone had stopped for an offside. The Irishman ran on to a through ball and slotted past Rob Green to lift Forest up to fifth in the Championship table.
