A third goal in as many games from Deimantas Petravicius was enough to help Nottingham Forest Under 21s to a 1-0 victory over Barnsley this afternoon.
The young Lithuanian winger had struck in the previous two games against Birmingham and Bolton and he was on target again at The City Ground to give Forest all three points.
A goalless first half saw chances fall to Antreas Karo and Gerry McDonagh for The Reds while Barnsley midfielder Jak McCourt sent a half-volley wide for the visitors' best opportunity of the opening 45 minutes.
Alex Iacovitti powered a header straight at Barnsley goalkeeper Nick Townsend early in the second half but Forest did take the lead two minutes later.
James Thorne raced through the middle of the park and played an inch-perfect ball through to Petravicius before the winger expertly drilled the ball home into the far corner of Townsend's net.
There were chances at either end before the game's conclusion, McDonagh and Barnsley's Jack Cowgill both missing from close range, but Forest held on to claim the victory.
Forest are next in action on Monday 21 March when they travel to Ipswich Town (kick-off 7pm) where they will be aiming to build on this afternoon's success.
