Time to believe

16 July 2016

Nottingham Forest full back Danny Fox says last night’s convincing win over Braga should lift the team’s self-belief.

The Reds beat the Portuguese top-flight side 3-0 courtesy of goals from Henri Lansbury, Alex Iacovitti and Oliver Burke.

And, while acknowledging the match was a friendly, Fox believes the team should take plenty of confidence from the display.

Speaking to Forest Player HD after the match, Fox said: “I gained promotion with Southampton and we had some top players who are now playing at the highest level, but we had a togetherness which I believe we’ve got here as well.

“It’s alright saying it but we need to stand up to it now and believe in ourselves a lot more because we weren’t playing against a team full of mugs tonight – we were playing against a team who play against top players in Europe every week.

“Albeit a friendly, I think we can take a lot of positives.”

The match was a physical one, with Matty Cash and Eric Lichaj in particular finding themselves on the end of robust challenges.

But Fox was happy with the way the friendly played out.

He said: “I think it’s healthy. You need that competitive edge because we’re going into a tough season.

“Some big teams have come down from the Premier League, some good teams have come up from League One and there are still the likes of Brighton who narrowly missed out last season.

“The Championship never gets any easier.”
