Nottingham Forest full back Danny Fox says he hopes to repay the faith shown in him by Philippe Montanier after signing a one-year contract extension.
Fox is now contracted until 2018 after impressing the head coach and his staff in pre-season.
And the 30-year-old is keen to justify his new deal by producing consistently strong performances in the coming campaign.
Fox told Forest Player HD: “I’m grateful to the staff for seeing what they’ve seen in me in the last few weeks. Hopefully I can repay their faith this season, and the season after, and we can have a memorable year this year.
“I’m just delighted to get it over the line so I can solely focus on football and doing well for Nottingham Forest.”
The beginning of the 2016-17 Sky Bet Championship season is now looming large, with Hull City providing Forest’s final pre-season opposition on Saturday.
And, while Fox and his team-mates are keen to get the campaign underway, the left back recognises the importance of proper preparation.
He said: “I think the lads are itching to get the season started and to hit the ground running against Burton, but the next two weeks are going to be vital.
“Hull will be a major test – they were one of the best teams in the Championship last season but I believe we were unlucky not to beat them home and away.
“Touch wood, nobody gets injured so we can go into the final week of pre-season preparing for the league to start.
“It’s about progression – we don’t want to do so well in pre-season and come unstuck in the league so it’s vitally important we put in a good performance on Saturday - and win.”
