Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of PEC Zwolle’s Finnish international defender Thomas Lam.
The 22-year-old has signed a three-year deal and arrives at The City Ground on a free transfer.
Lam made more than 30 appearances for Zwolle in the Dutch top flight last season, playing a key role in a side that reached the Eredevisie play-offs.
He also became a regular member of Finland’s European Championships qualifying squad and played the majority of the match as his country beat the Faroe Islands 1-0 last September.
Lam, who was born in the Netherlands, has taken his first steps outside the Dutch game by signing for Forest but should feel at home in the company of Reds striker Lars Veldwijk, who played regularly with Lam while on loan at Zwolle last season.
The defender began his career as a young player at AZ Alkmaar, who gave him his senior debut aged 19 in an Eredevisie match against Roda JC.
Lam moved to Zwolle in 2014 and became a first-team regular straightaway, racking up more than 60 senior appearances before accepting Forest’s offer.
