Damien’s dream comes true

26 July 2016

New Nottingham Forest signing Damien Perquis says playing in England will be a dream come true.

The central defender joined The Reds last week after leaving MLS side Toronto FC.

And Perquis told Forest Player HD that the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of his idol, as well as experiencing the physicality of the Sky Bet Championship, was too good to turn down.

He said: “It’s a dream for me to play in England and Forest are a big club with history, so it’s great for me to be here now.

“Eric Cantona is my idol - that’s why I dreamed of playing in England – and I like the fight, I like to be ready to jump and have contact with players. That’s not a problem for me.

“I feel great – I was a little bit tired with jetlag when I came three days ago but now I’m OK and really enjoying training with my new team-mates.”

Perquis, who knows he will face a battle to nail down a first-team spot with Matt Mills, Michael Mancienne and Jack Hobbs competing in his position, is looking forward to working under head coach Philippe Montanier.

The pair’s paths have already crossed several times and Perquis now hopes they can form a formidable partnership at Forest.

He said: “We played against each other in France when he was training Boulogne and Valenciennes, and in Spain too when he was with Sociedad and I was with Betis.

“He did some good stuff with every team he’s had and I hope we will do the same here.

“I knew before I came that I would have to be good at every training session and show the coach I can play. That’s it – that’s the only way for me to be in the 11 every game.”
