Nottingham Forest head coach Philippe Montanier says he is pleased by his side's progress following the 2-1 victory at Notts County this afternoon.
Goals from Ben Osborn and Jamie Paterson were enough to secure the win for Forest in Mike Edwards' testimonial game at Meadow Lane and Montanier was happy with both the result and the performance.
Speaking to Forest Player HD after the game: "It's always important during pre-season to be winning matches but the objective was to get the players playing as many minutes as possible.
"It was enjoyable to come here and celebrate Mike Edwards' loyalty to Notts County but it was a tough match. In fact it was closer to a Championship game than it was a pre-season friendly.
"It was curious for me to see two grounds which are so close to each other across the river, it could only happen in England. But it was great because we were able to have so many fans here to see us play."
Summer signing Apostolos Vellios led the Forest attack at Meadow Lane but Montanier believes he will have to adapt his formation throughout the season to cope with the rigours of the Sky Bet Championship.
"We can have different systems. Today we played a 4-3-3 formation with Apostolos leading the line but we can play in different ways including with two men up front.
"We are very fortunate because we have a number of versatile players who can play in different positions and we will need that to get through a very long Championship season."
