Nottingham Forest Under 21s were beaten 2-1 by Leeds United on Monday.
Ryan Yates’ goal levelled the scores before the break but Forest succumbed to the hosts’ second-half strike.
Coach Jimmy Gilligan said: “At times we were disappointed with our management of the ball, certainly in the midfield and back-four areas.
“In the second half we showed more desire and enthusiasm. We got in their faces and created one or two chances
“But we conceded from a set play, which is disappointing because it’s something we try to work on and stop, but when you’ve got young lads in the team sometimes they switch off.
“What’s pleasing again is that half a dozen youth-team players were out there getting experience, which will only bode well for next season in my opinion.
“While we may be losing games by the odd-goal, from my point of view it’s a good education for these kids.”
