A goal from Deimantas Petravicius was not enough to prevent Nottingham Forest Under 21s from slipping to a 2-1 defeat at Bolton Wanderers this evening.
Forest went into the game on the back of a 3-1 win over Birmingham City last week and they lined up against a Wanderers side which included first-team players Stephen Dobbie and Wellington Silva.
But it was Jimmy Gilligan's side who took the lead after 24 minutes as Petravicius latched onto a low cross before sending an unstoppable drive past Ross Fitzsimons in the Bolton goal.
Bolton came back strongly after conceding the opening goal and they levelled matters six minutes later as Kaiyne Woolery sent a powerful effort past Ross Durrant into the bottom corner.
Dobbie had often been the nemesis of Forest's first-team and he was on the scoresheet again just before half-time, getting on the end of Woolery's low cross to put Wanderers ahead at the break.
There were chances for both sides in the second half as Ben Brereton saw a goal ruled out for offside and hit the crossbar but Forest were unable to find an equaliser as they fell to defeat at the Macron Stadium.
Forest Under 21s will be looking to respond to tonight's result when they host Barnsley at The City Ground on Monday 14 March (kick-off 1pm).
