Under 18s 1-0 Barnsley

13 February 2016

Kyle McClean scored his first goal of the season as Nottingham Forest’s Under 18s beat Barnsley 1-0 at The Nigel Doughty Academy this afternoon.

The Northern Ireland youth international slotted home inside the opening ten minutes to hand The Reds their sixth win on the bounce in Professional Development League Two North.

Liam Adams came close to doubling the lead when he broke forward, but he fired wide of Jack Walton’s post.

Top scorer Ben Brereton then turned his marker before rifling over, as Forest snuffed out any of the Tykes’ attacking dangers up the other end in the first period.

McClean could’ve got on the scoresheet on the stroke of half-time as he tried to chip the goalkeeper, although Walton showed good anticipation to hold well.

Barnsley should’ve equalised when Mohamed Saeed raced clear of the Forest defence, but Jordan Wright reacted brilliantly to save well with his legs.

And Jack Lester’s side remained resolute in the closing stages to hold out for the three points ahead of next Tuesday’s game away at Crewe Alexandra (11am kick-off).

Forest: Wright, Re, Nielsen (Stewart 45’), Jemson, Gamblen, Adams, Taylor, Edser, McClean (Gomis 69’), Hayes, Brereton
