Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman says his players have ‘made a real statement’ by beating Leeds at Elland Road this afternoon.
Forest picked up a deserved 1-0 victory
following an impressive display in West Yorkshire.
And Freedman was thrilled not only with the result, but also the nature of his team’s performance.
The manager said: “We have made a real statement today because to come to Elland Road and play the way we did is a fantastic achievement. At no stage did we ever look under threat.
“I felt we controlled the game fantastically well throughout and were very well-organised. We kept the ball for long periods of the game and created some very good chances.
“The only bit of disappointment I have is that in the first half we weren’t two or three goals up, because that would have been the right scoreline.
“We know we’ve got lots to improve on but to come here and control the game throughout is very pleasing.”
Nelson Oliveira got the goal – his eighth of the season – and Freedman is encouraged by the loanee’s progression.
He said: “Nelson’s a wonderful signing for us. I’m very, very proud it was me and nobody else in the queue to sign him. I cannot believe it at times – what a quality player. I’m really grateful to my recruitment department.
“I gave a promise to the Benfica chairman that we will make him a better all-round player and I think we’re starting to see that.”
