Nottingham Forest Under 18s fell to a 2-0 defeat against Bolton Wanderers in the Professional Development League this afternoon.
Two first-half goals sealed the win for Bolton against a youthful Forest side at the Eddie Davies Academy. Both goals arrived on counter attacks, firstly after 15 minutes and the second just before half time, to compound the Under 18s to their sixth defeat of the season.
Head coach Gareth Holmes felt his side performed well and showed good intent but there are improvements to be made.
He said: "We were disappointed with the result but the performance was a bit better than the result suggests. We moved the ball really well up until their 18-yard box but lacked a cutting edge.
"A very young side played and I was pleased with how they moved the ball through the thirds, but there was no real penetration or end product and we found it difficult to break down their two banks of four in the second half. It was a good learning curve for the boys that for all the possession they had, we need to find an end product."
