Match preview: Huddersfield (A)

24 December 2016

Nottingham Forest make the trip to Huddersfield Town for the Sky Bet Championship clash on Boxing Day (kick-off 3pm).

Nottingham Forest will be aiming to get back on track after a disappointing defeat against Wolves last weekend. The 2-0 reverse was the second defeat in three games for The Reds, and Philippe Montanier will be aiming to turn things around over the festive period.

Games don't come much trickier than at Huddersfield, who have got their season back up and running after a stuttering October and November. With only one win in that eight-game stretch, Town slipped out of the play-off places. But with three wins on the spin, they have pushed themselves back into the promotion picture.

Britt Assombalonga is pushing to be recalled to the matchday squad having missed the last three fixtures with a hamstring injury, but Henri Lansbury will remain on the sidelines.

Armand Traore has been ruled out for around two months after injuring his knee in the 1-1 draw with Preston. Damien Perquis, Nicklas Bendtner and Thomas Lam could all return after missing the defeat to Wolves.

Huddersfield have no new injury concerns after their win over Norwich. Defender Mark Hudson is nearing a return after a hamstring injury, while Joe Lolley stepped up his recovery following a long-term foot injury. Sean Scannell remains sidelined for The Terriers.

Elias Kachunga

Signed on a season-long loan from German Bundesliga side Ingolstadt in the summer, striker Elias Kachunga has hit the ground running at Huddersfield.

With eight goals to his name so far this term, the 24-year-old has topped the Town scoring charts and will be the one to watch for the Forest defence at the John Smith's Stadium.

The pacy frontman is in form, having scored a brace in the 2-1 win over Norwich last time out, and he also scored a last-minute winner in the 1-0 victory over Derby in October.

Huddersfield Town head coach David Wagner has called on the Town fans to create an atmosphere at the John Smith's Stadium on Boxing Day.

He said: "We have to focus on the next step and that is Nottingham Forest. We have to make sure we are focused on ourselves to perform and I ask the supporters to create the best atmosphere ever on Boxing Day as we have the advantage of being at home and it has to be a big advantage for us.

“It doesn’t matter who is the opponent, home or away, we have to believe and trust in ourselves. We are a team that likes to act, rather than react, all over the pitch and we are very energetic and aggressive.

“For this, you have to be brave and you have to be fit – and we are.”
