Nottingham Forest head coach Philippe Montanier hopes his side have learned some lessons from the 3-0 defeat against Derby County.
Montanier was disappointed with the second half performance as The Reds could not get back into the game and Derby ran away with the bragging rights from the East Midlands derby.
He said: “The first half was decent with Cashy nearly scoring before the break, but the second half was very poor tactically, technically and physically. When you play in a derby you have to show another level and it is a big disappointment as it is an important game for the fans. For that I am more than disappointed, especially about the second half.
“We lacked everything in the second half. Not just passion but we didn’t play like a unit with and without the ball. You cannot do that in any game, especially a derby as it is a tough game. You have to play at 100 per cent and at a top level and we played a very poor second half.
“We needed points and needed to continue with the same dynamics, even when we cannot win we try not to lose. Today we didn’t deserve a draw or victory and I hope it is a lesson learned for the next game that if we don’t play 100 per cent we cannot hope for a good result.”
Montanier is hopeful that an injury to Henri Lansbury in the warm-up is not serious as the midfielder was forced to miss out.
He said: “During the week Henri was fine but during the warm-up he felt something in his hamstring so we decided not to take the risk. Yes, he is our captain and is an important player for us but in the first half we showed we can play without Henri and the other players needed to step up.
“When we had the ball we lost it and gave it to the opponent. It is not just a defeat for the midfielders but for the defence and attack too because in the second half I don’t think we had one opportunity of scoring.
“It is difficult to know why we played badly as everyone had good motivation and great determination before so it is difficult to know why we played like that. We had a decent first half and 1-0 is not a problem as we know we can come back from that so for me I do not understand why we had a poor second half.”
