Match preview: Leeds United (H)

26 August 2016

Nottingham Forest will want to head into the international break on the back of a victory when they entertain old rivals Leeds United at The City Ground on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

Games between Nottingham Forest and Leeds United usually produce goals, memorable moments and plenty of debate and this Saturday's clash is sure to be no different as the two sides renew acquaintances at The City Ground.

Forest enter the game in good spirits after back-to-back wins over Wigan Athletic and Millwall while Leeds will also be full of confidence after away victories at Sheffield Wednesday and Luton Town earlier in the week.

Victory for Philippe Montanier's men could lift them into the top six in the Sky Bet Championship and would send them into the international break in style with five wins from seven matches during the month of August.

Nottingham Forest duo Britt Assombalonga (hamstring) and Danny Fox (hip) both face a race against time to be fit for the game against Leeds after limping from the field during last weekend's win over Wigan Athletic.

Otherwise Philippe Montanier should have no further injury concerns but will have a decision to make over which goalkeeper starts after Vladimir Stojkovic joined the club this week to provide competition for Stephen Henderson.

Leeds manager Garry Monk has a fully-fit squad to choose from with the exception of Gaetano Berardi as the Italian right-back continues to recover from a hamstring injury he picked up on the opening day of the season.

Chris Wood

Chris Wood has started the season strongly with three goals in his first five matches and the former Leicester man will be a threat to Forest's defence at The City Ground this weekend.

The New Zealand international joined the club in 2015 on a four-year deal and enjoyed a good debut season by scoring 13 goals including a brace in a 3-2 win over Reading.

A prolific goalscorer at this level, Wood netted Leeds’ second goal in the victory at Sheffield Wednesday in their last league outing.

Garry Monk: “Nottingham Forest are a very good team – they pose a big threat, especially going forward. We have to be really on our game.

“They have a really good manager as well – you can see the way he’s going to be working with them and that will improve.

“It will be an interesting game; one we have to be ready for. It’s a difficult place to go at the best of times."
