Under 18s: Forest 2-1 Birmingham

5 April 2016

Virgil Gomis bagged a brace as Nottingham Forest's Under 18s came from behind to beat Birmingham City 2-1 at The Nigel Doughty Academy this afternoon.

The contest got off to a quiet start with very few chances, before Nosa Iyamu lashed an effort past Jordan Wright to give the visitors the advantage midway through the first half.

Jack Lester's men then upped the ante as Liam Adams' powerful attempt was deflected just wide, but they were finally rewarded for their attacking endeavours after the break.

Gomis pounced on a short headed back pass and guided the ball past the helpless goalkeeper to put his side level.

And Forest kept the pressure on, menacingly closing down their opponents in possession with impressive urgency. Kieran Hayes, Jake Taylor and Adams all had opportunities saved, whilst the latter also saw a free-kick from wide cannon off the crossbar.

But the hosts wouldn't be frustrated for much longer in their quest for a winner, and they took the lead in the final minute of normal time as the in-form Gomis was fed incisively by Taylor, and he proceeded to find himself a yard of space inside the area to fire home.

Lester's title-winning outfit are next in action on Saturday (April 9, 11am kick-off) against Queens Park Rangers at The Nigel Doughty Academy for their last game of the regular season ahead of the play-offs which follow.

Forest: Wright, Gabriel (Otim 46'), Jemson, Willetts, Preston, Adams, Re, Taylor, Gamblen, Gomis, Hayes
