Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga says he ‘can’t wait’ to return to the first-team squad tomorrow night.
The Reds take on Blackburn Rovers at The City Ground (kick-off 7.45pm) and Paul Williams is likely to name Assombalonga in the squad for the first time since the striker injured his knee against Wigan in February 2015.
And Assombalonga is relishing the prospect of finally making his first-team return.
He told Forest Player HD: “It’s true, I’ll be in the squad tomorrow. It’s been a very, very long time so I’m just happy to be involved.
“The City Ground is where I got injured and to go back there fit would be a nice feeling.
“There is still a long way to go – I’ll probably be at the top of my fitness come pre-season. You lose it so fast but to get it back takes a long time.”
Assombalonga took part in the warm-up at Rotherham on Saturday and, while he wasn’t named in the matchday squad, he says the experience helped him get ready for his return to action.
He said: “In a way it makes me feel that bit better – sitting on the bench with all the boys and the staff, watching the game and thinking of stuff I could do if I was to come on. It has helped to get my head back on to it again.
“It was good to be involved in the warm-up, bringing back old memories, and I just can’t wait for tomorrow.”
