New loan signing Jonny Williams played 64 minutes in Nottingham Forest's Under 21s' 2-1 win over Cardiff City at The City Ground yesterday.
Dougie Freedman watched the Welshman in action from the stands as goals from Joe Worrall and Oliver Burke helped Jamie Fullarton's men edge past the Bluebirds.
Forest took the lead inside the open ten minutes when Jack Kelly's pinpoint free-kick found the head of Worrall who guided the ball into the corner.
Will Abbotts equalised for the visitors with a well-taken finish but Burke stepped up with a powerful finish following tireless work by Kelly to give the Reds the advantage once again.
The hosts nearly extended their lead through Jorge Grant but they held out valiantly in the latter stages to ensure a third league win of the season.
Fullarton's side will be looking to build on the result when they travel away to Bristol City on Monday 21 September (7pm kick-off).
