Reds cruise to victory

20 October 2015

Gerry McDonagh scored twice as Nottingham Forest’s Under 21s beat Crewe Alexandra 3-1 at the Nigel Doughty Academy.

The Irishman opened the scoring when he ran on to James Thorne’s incisive pass before neatly guiding the ball past the keeper.

Forest doubled their advantage before half-time when Oliver Burke won and scored a penalty.

And the home side put the game out of Crewe’s reach after the break with another coolly-taken goal from McDonagh following a strong Luke Thomas run.

Crewe managed a 60th minute consolation when Callum Ainley’s deflected effort beat Tim Erlandsson, but there was to be no coming back for the visitors.

Forest: Erlandsson, Gabriel, Kelly, Worrall (c), Iacovitti, Riera (Cash 68’), Burke (Thomas 45’), Yates, McDonagh, Thorne, Petravicius (Austin 75’)
