Brereton on target again

19 October 2015

Ben Brereton grabbed his tenth goal in 11 matches as Nottingham Forest's Under 18s suffered their first defeat in five games losing 2-1 to Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

The Reds fought hard after Elvis Otim was sent off but it wasn't to be as the visitors edged over the line at The Nigel Doughty Academy. Despite Virgil Gomis going close for Forest in the opening stages, the Cheshire outfit took the lead on 15 minutes.

A set-piece found its way to Tom Quinn at the back post, and he was alive enough to turn the ball into the net from close range.

Shortly afterwards, Oliver Finney produced an unstoppable strike from distance to double his side's lead and they remained two goals to the good until the 71st-minute. Upping the ante after seeing Otim receive his marching orders, Brereton prodded home from approximately six yards out to give The Reds some hope.

Jack Lester's men valiantly went for the equaliser and did have opportunities to level as they threw bodies forward but their impressive winning run came to a frustrating end.

Forest will be aiming to bounce back from their first loss since September 12 when they travel to face Hull City on Friday 30 October (kick-off 11.30am).

Forest: Boyd, Diallo (Jemson 85'), Nielsen, Crookes, Re, Adams, Edser, Gamblen (A Wright 24'), Otim, Brereton, Gomis (McClean 66')
