Plymouth-based Nottingham Forest fan Scott Wheeler was given the experience of a lifetime this week.
Scott travelled from his student home in Devon to Forest’s Nigel Doughty Academy to present Dorus de Vries with August’s Player of the Month award, sponsored by The Bed Chambers
A keen goalkeeper himself, Scott spoke at length with de Vries, who signed a number of items and handed over a pair of match-worn gloves.
Jack Hobbs stopped by for a lengthy chat, while Scott also shook hands with the likes of Chris Cohen, Michael Mancienne and David Vaughan.
All this came after he was given a tour of The City Ground earlier in the day.
But how did Scott come to support Forest in the first place?
He explained to Forest Player HD: “I was four or five and I didn’t have a football team to support. Forest were playing Gillingham live on Sky and I said to my dad ‘I’ll support whoever wins’. Forest won 4-1 and I’m here today as a Forest fan.
“Being in the stadium earlier on was absolutely fantastic. There’s a certain aura around The City Ground – you can feel the history and the pride that’s gone into the football club.
“It’s been great to see the players on a one-to-one basis, in their training gear focused and ready for the next match against Hull.”
The opportunity arose for Scott when he was randomly selected from those who voted for de Vries, who comfortably won the Player of the Month award after a number of impressive August displays.
De Vries also won The Bed Chambers
Dream Moment of the Month award for his point-blank save against Charlton in the same month.
Watch the video to hear de Vries’ recollections on his solid start to the season, and how he intends to hold on to the number one shirt.
The Dutch keeper very kindly donated his The Bed Chambers
voucher to Scott, who now has £200 to spend at the award-winning store.
And, in an another huge gesture of generosity, The Bed Chambers
have agreed to give Scott free delivery to save him another long trip to the East Midlands!
