Fawaz pays his tributes

18 March 2015

Nottingham Forest owner and chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi has paid tribute to the work of Ken Smales.

The club were deeply saddened to hear of Mr Smales' passing and, in tonight's edition of the matchday programme, Mr Al Hasawi acknowledges the contributions the former secretary made on Trentside.

He writes: "This sad news came as a shock to everyone at the club, many of whom have very fond memories of working with Ken.

"Not only was he a tremendous servant of Forest, his employment here spanning 35 years, but he played a pivotal behind-the-scenes role during our most successful period on the pitch, developing a close working relationship with Brian Clough."

Supporters can read the owner's full column, plus former club secretary Paul White's memories of Mr Smales, in tonight's programme (£3).

Eric Lichaj is also featured, covering topics ranging from his hair style to the team ethic Dougie Freedman has instilled.

Lichaj says: "Everyone's on the same page, working for each other. Nobody's worried about who's scoring or how many assists they have.

"It's a whole team effort. Everybody knows what they're doing and how to respond to certain situations in a game."

Programmes are available to purchase from various outlets around The City Ground, while they can also be downloaded on to iPad, iPhone or Android devices. Perfect for supporters unable to attend the game, the download can be accessed via this app now for Apple users or via this link for Android users.
