Nottingham Forest owner and chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi has penned his programme notes ahead of today’s visit of Swansea and next week’s arrival of Aston Villa.
Supporters who purchase the pre-season programme will notice the first in a series of retro covers to be used by the club throughout the 150th anniversary campaign.
And Al Hasawi is excited to welcome supporters back to The City Ground for the celebratory year.
In the first edition of the season (£2), Al Hasawi writes: 'A very warm welcome to you all for this summer’s pre-season friendlies against Swansea City
and Aston Villa
'I would like to thank these opponents for giving us the opportunity to face top-flight teams in our preparations for the new campaign. I wish both clubs every success for the forthcoming Premier League season.
'Our league campaign commences in less than a fortnight and these two matches present the manager and players with an opportunity to apply the finishing touches before we travel down to Brighton.
'We have had tremendous followings at our friendlies so far, particularly at those in Sweden and Denmark, but for many fans this will be their first opportunity to see this season’s team in action – and to catch a glimpse of our new signings Matt Mills and Jamie Ward.
'To complete both transfers despite the restrictions placed upon us is a tremendous achievement and the manager and I are working hard to make further additions as we look to improve the squad as best we can.
'A constant desire to improve is essential for any football club but I have the utmost faith that our current players can be competitive this season. Win, lose or draw against Swansea and Aston Villa, the result will have no impact on our season, but we are now at the exciting stage where players are nearing full fitness and the first league match is looming large.
'Of course, this is a special season for the club as we celebrate our 150th anniversary. It was brilliant to see such a positive reaction when we revealed our commemorative home and away kits. The home kit, which has seen unprecedented sales, will be worn by the team for the very first time against Swansea.
'As today’s programme cover suggests, we will be celebrating our anniversary in many different ways throughout the season. The club website and social media channels will keep supporters up to date.
'Thank you for joining us for the new season.'
This edition’s cover design was originally used in the 1973-74 season. Inside, readers will find interviews with former Swan Dorus de Vries and ex-Villain Eric Lichaj, comprehensive coverage of Forest’s pre-season and much more.
The programme will be available to purchase at the City Ground megastore and around the stadium at both games.
