Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman feels his squad are ‘heading in the right direction’ at this point in pre-season.The Reds drew 1-1 with Swedish side Mjallby this evening in their second friendly of the summer.
And Freedman, who once again took the opportunity to experiment tactically, believes he and his squad will take a lot from the match.
The manager told Forest Player HD: “It was a good workout - that’s what these games are for. Coming over to Sweden, I wanted this sort of competition.
“Obviously our fitness levels are not where they should be, but it was another game where we produced a lot of chances and should probably have won.
“We tried a couple of different shapes tonight and I think the shape we ended with, with two strikers up front, helped us a lot.
“We’ve got a long way to go but we’re certainly heading in the right direction.”
Summer signing Jamie Ward came on in the second half to make his first appearance in a Forest shirt, marking the occasion by providing the assist for Chris Burke to equalise.
And Freedman was impressed with what he saw from his new recruit.
He said: “I thought he and Matt Mills were excellent. They are two experienced players helping us along.
“I think they are fantastic signings. We’ll keep on making sure we get the right people to come to the club.”
