Eight is great for Under 18s

13 July 2015

Nottingham Forest’s Under 18s rounded off their pre-season tour of Portugal in style as they thumped Liverpool FC Warriors America 8-2 in Lousada this evening.

Braces for Kieran Hayes, Anthony Wright and Nikolay Todorov added to goals from Toby Edser and Thomas Gamblen as Forest ended their tour in positive fashion.

The Reds fell behind after ten minutes after some hesitant defending but soon turned the game around as Edser finished at the back post before Gamblen curled a free-kick past the Liverpool goalkeeper.

Despite conceding an equaliser soon after, Forest asserted their control before half-time as Hayes, who tormented the Liverpool defence all evening, produced two confident finishes to put The Reds 4-2 up at the interval.

Under 18s’ manager Jack Lester introduced Wright and Todorov into the fray midway through the second half and the pair soon combined to devastating effect.

First Wright provided a sublime cross to allow Todorov to turn the ball in at the back post before the Bulgarian slotted home after another unselfish piece of play from him American teammate.

Fittingly, Todorov replied in kind by setting up Wright for the seventh goal before the latter rounded off the scoring with eight minutes to play to ensure the Under 18s would end their pre-season tour on a real high note.

Forest: Boyd (J.Wright 46’), Diallo (Burns 46’), Nielsen (Jemson 46’), Crookes, Re, Yates (Taylor 60’), Gamblen (Adams 46’), Otim (A.Wright 60’), Hayes (Todorov 60’), Edser (Gomis 46’), Brereton
