Two goals from Tyler Walker helped Nottingham Forest’s Under 21s beat Barnsley 4-0 at The Nigel Doughty Academy this afternoon.
The victory was the third on the bounce for Jimmy Gilligan's men and takes them to the top of the Under 21 Professional Development League 2 North.
Josh Rees opened the scoring for The Reds just before the quarter-hour mark and Walker made it two ten minutes before half-time, following great work from left back Jack Kelly.
Two goals in as many minutes midway through the second half then sealed the game for Forest, with substitute Kasheme Walton adding the third after a fine, flowing move.
Walker got his second shortly after, with a driven finish through goalkeeper Adam Davis’ legs.
Under 21 coach Jake Wigley was delighted with the display, and particularly pleased for the six Under 18s who featured in the side.
He said: “We played well. We had to be patient at times as Barnsley let us play out from the back and we got away with a couple of little mistakes but we penetrated their back four when we got the ball in behind.
“We grew into the game, scored some good goals, and kept a clean sheet, which was pleasing.
“The boys who stepped up from the Under 18s played very well. Adam Crookes played Saturday and he did well to get through another full 90 today. He kept us ticking over from a deep-lying midfield role.
“The Under 18s don’t make us weaker – at the moment they’re stepping up and making us stronger at times.”
