Dougie Freedman said he is ‘delighted’ with where his Nottingham Forest side are after they drew 3-3 with Aston Villa in their final pre-season friendly of the summer.
The Forest manager praised his players’ spirit after they fought back from two goals behind
to draw with Tim Sherwood’s side.
Speaking to Forest Player HD, Freedman said: “I’m delighted with where we are, what we’ve done, and how we’ve built up the games.
“The spirit was there today – I thought we showed that right to the end. We have been given two fantastic tests in Swansea and Aston Villa – it would have been very easy for me to find us weaker opposition and win the games, but I don’t believe in that.
“We’ve finished pre-season and it’s been great for us. I think lots of players have done really well, and I must mention Jamie Ward who I thought was excellent today.”
New signing Daniel Pinillos was on the bench this afternoon and Freedman said bringing him to the club was a ‘no-brainer’.
The manager said: “He’s a fantastic addition to the squad. I saw him play in La Liga last year and he’s a very aggressive young player, 22 years of age, and on a free transfer I thought it was a no-brainer.
“I want a hungrier side and I think he’s full of hunger and desire. He’s got a little bit more to do in terms of fitness, which is why he didn’t play today, but he adds good competition to the squad.”
