Aston Villa loanee Gary Gardner says Nottingham Forest will always be in his heart.
The midfielder is approaching the end of a successful spell at The City Ground which has seen him play 17 times and score four goals for The Reds.
And Gardner’s relationship with Forest’s supporters has contributed hugely to how much he has enjoyed his time on Trentside.
He said: “This club will always be in my heart. The fans have been brilliant with me and I feel like I’ve put the performances in for them and the staff.
“When the fans are singing at the start of every home game it puts hairs on the back of your neck. They kept us going through the good run and they’re still behind us now.
“The fans here are brilliant and definitely one of the best sets I’ve played for.”
Gardner harbours hopes of playing Premier League football next season and is even eying an inclusion in Aston Villa’s FA Cup final squad.
He hasn’t ruled out a return to The City Ground next season, however, and has huge confidence that the club has the right manager in place to take Forest forward.
Gardner said: “Stuart Pearce brought me in, which I’m very thankful for. I’ll always look up to Stuart because he’s given me the best opportunities for England and brought me into a massive club.
“I was devastated when he left but Dougie Freedman has come in and been brilliant. He’s played me every game and put belief into the team that we should be at the top.
“I think he’s done an outstanding job and I’m buzzing he’s signed a new deal here because I think he’s the right man for the job.”
