USA international Eric Lichaj sported his country’s colours once again at yesterday’s Nottingham Forest Golf Day, sponsored by Unibet, but Jack Hunt wouldn’t let him have it all his own way.
The Crystal Palace loanee’s retort came in the form of a similarly garish pair of union jack bottoms which he donned before taking to the Notts course at Hollinwell for the club’s ever-popular annual event. As well as a host of the club’s commercial clients, Lichaj and Hunt were joined by teammates Chris Cohen, Greg Halford, Louis Laing, Jamie Paterson, Karl Darlow and Henri Lansbury, while former Nottinghamshire and England cricketer and now-Unibet ambassador Graeme Swann also took part.
A number of team and individual prizes were on offer, with three Forest players involved in a controversial longest drive contest on the 18th hole.
Hollinwell professional Damon Wood had set what looked like an insurmountable target until Halford, in the third-last group, stepped up to the tee.
His monstrous drive looked sure to scoop the prize but confusion ensued when Lansbury knocked Cohen’s ball knocked beyond Halford’s with a similarly impressive drive. The latter just hung on to the accolade.
Unibet representatives were on hand to take bets from the players ahead of the tournament and, very kindly, refunded all losing bets at the end of the day.
Each team were given three adidas boot bags, a Unibet umbrella, a bottle of beer courtesy of Greene King and free refreshments.
The below prize-winners were announced during dinner in the club house.
