Nottingham Forest's Under 21s secured a 3-1 victory at Colchester United last night as Dexter Blackstock and Kelvin Wilson stepped up their recoveries from injury.
Blackstock played 45 minutes in his first game back since injuring his knee in December while Kelvin Wilson also completed 65 minutes at The Weston Homes Community Stadium.
High on confidence following their 4-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday last time out, Jimmy Gilligan's side completed the win thanks to goals from Josh Rees, Oliver Burke and Louis Laing.
The Reds took the lead midway through the first half as Rees was the first to react inside the penalty area to head home from close range after the Colchester goalkeeper failed to palm the ball to safety.
Forest's lead was doubled three minutes before half-time as Burke broke through the home defence before producing a calm finish underneath the body of the home keeper.
The home side reduced the deficit in the second half as Tyler Brampton drilled a low effort past Dorus de Vries into the bottom corner of the net but Forest made the game safe on 85 minutes.
Laing showed terrific strength to hold off his marker before producing a superb finish from the angle to seal a second straight win for Gilligan's side.
