Nottingham Forest ambassador John McGovern says there’s a ‘buzz’ around the club at the moment.
Sky Bet Championship action may have taken a break to accommodate the latest round of international fixtures but, with Saturday’s trip to Cardiff now on the horizon, attentions are turning back to the domestic side of the game.
And McGovern believes the break hasn’t hampered the good feeling Stuart Pearce instilled over the opening 11 games of the campaign.
He told Forest Player: “There’s a buzz about the club and long may it last.
“The biggest goal of course is winning promotion, but at the moment we’re right at the very top. Confidence is high, the players respect those they’re playing with, there’s a lot of quality in the squad and the team spirit is evident for everyone to see.”
Forest take on a Cardiff side who will be keen to impress new manager Russell Slade in his first match in charge.
But McGovern believes Pearce’s men have proved already this season their ability to pick up results in tricky circumstances.
He said: “Defensively we’ve been well set to withstand pressure from the opposition. We’ve had to do it in extremes at Sheffield Wednesday and Bournemouth because their play was very direct.
“It’ll be no different from any other away game. You don’t want to lose an early goal because the home team get their tails up, but if we go out there and play as we did in the early part of this season we should fear no one.”
