21s downed by Cardiff

14 October 2014

Nottingham Forest's Under 21s suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat at the hands of Cardiff City on Monday afternoon.

Jimmy Gilligan's side were hoping to get back to winning ways following their 3-1 Premier League Cup defeat to Wigan Athletic but fell behind after 17 minutes in South Wales as Danny Johnson slotted the hosts ahead.

The Reds were level shortly before the half-hour mark as Oliver Burke grabbed yet another goal in Forest colours as he struck a 25-yard effort past the home goalkeeper.

Burke's strike was not enough to send his side into the half-time interval all-square though as goals from Deji Oshilaja and Johnson gave Cardiff a commanding 3-1 advantage going into the break.

Forest went in search of a route back into the game early in the second half and home goalkeeper Ben Wilson had to be alert to prevent Joe Worrall from converting at close range.

Further goals from Cardiff skipper Tom O'Sullivan and Oshilaja put gloss onto the scoreline in the Bluebirds' favour leaving Forest to reflect on another difficult day at the office.

Forest: Durrant, Francis (Schoenecker 65'), Polimos, Dawson (Gnahore 45'), Riera, Worrall, Burke, Rees, Todorov, Walker, Otim (Crookes 45')
