Ben Osborn says Nottingham Forest’s players have to ‘be ready’ to seize their opportunity when selected by Stuart Pearce.
The young midfielder made his seventh start of the season in Wednesday’s defeat against Brentford but, like some of his team-mates, he has found himself out of the squad altogether at times this season.
But his performance against the Bees drew praise from his manager and, if selected to face Norwich City tomorrow, Osborn is keen to prove he deserves a regular place in the starting 11.
He told Forest Player: “You’ve just got to be ready for it. All the squad have been given a fair chance, you’ve just got to put in a good performance to make sure your name is still on the teamsheet for the next game.
“It’s disappointing when you go from starting to out of the squad. It can be hard. But Stuart will always tell me I’ve done nothing wrong and keep me positive and confident.
“I just hope I can stay in the team now, get a run of games and keep improving.”
Osborn arrived on the first-team scene towards the end of last season during academy manager Gary Brazil’s temporary spell in charge.
And the 20-year-old is delighted to now be firmly part of the senior set-up.
He said: “This season has been better due to the fact I’ve been training with the first team full-time, whereas last year I was yo-yoing between the first team and Under 21s.
“You get to know the lads better and you feel more part of the group. The standard in training has been excellent.”
