Chris Cohen hopes Nottingham Forest’s pre-season schedule will allow him and his teammates to develop the confidence they need to make a strong start to the 2014-15 campaign.
The Reds will travel to face SC Braga, Rotherham, MK Dons and York City, while an additional friendly in Portugal and a fixture at The City Ground are also expected to be confirmed soon.
And Cohen says the winnable nature of this summer’s fixtures could set The Reds in good stead.
He told Forest Player: “I always feel it’s good to have matches you can win in pre-season. It’s lovely having big games against great teams but if you lose four or five it doesn’t fill you with confidence.
“Hopefully our strikers can get some goals, our defenders can get some clean sheets and we can take some confidence into the start of the season.”
Cohen is still in rehabilitation after missing the majority of last season with a knee injury and, while he is “desperate” to resume a prominent role in the first team, he accepts his pre-season may have to be a watered-down affair.
He said: “I’m not sure how many of the friendlies I’ll be able to play in. Hopefully I’ll get some minutes towards the end but I’ve just got to be careful.
“I’m desperate to get back in and play every minute of every game, like any of the lads will be, but I just have to listen to the physios’ advice and make sure I don’t do too much too soon.”
